Happy Birthday, Dota 2!
Today is a glorious day for all Dota 2 fans! Four years ago, on 17 August 2011, Valve presented the first version of our favorite game at the very first The International held in Cologne, Germany. Happy Birthday, Dota 2!
Many things have changed over the long four years: the game has gained extreme popularity, large number of heroes has been added, many patches has been released, and the prize pool of the main Dota 2 tournament has increased by 16 millions dollars! Some people have become an inalienable part of the show. For example the Russian-speaking caster Vitaliy "v1lat" Volochai has become "the voice" of all major Dota 2 tournaments, including TI. V1lat recalls the history of the game:
Кстати да, ровно 4 года назад, 17 августа 2011 года, где-то в 11-00 по Киеву я начал комментировать первый матч #TheInternational1. История— Vitalii Volochai (@v1lat) 17 августа 2015
4 years ago, 17 August 2011, at about 11:00 Kyiv time, I began casting the first match of The International. History
iG (SanSheng, Zhou, xioa8, Ferrari, ddc) played against EHOME (820, QQQ, MMY, Lanm, SJQ). The game was cool. Lasted for about 90 minutes.
We are pretty sure that for such a diverse and profound game as Dota 2, 4 years is the age of majority. She's slowly coming to an era of a new engine, which provides new possibilities both mechanical and graphical. So we can only guess, what our favourite game will be in another 4 years.
