CIS Minor Announced

Starladder has recently announced details about the CIS Minor. This announcement comes on the heels of announcements for other regional minors, and with the promise of a $50,000 prize pool.  The tournament will take place through December and January, with the final matches being held live in Belarus Belarus.
The first open qualifier for this tournament will last from December 17th to 18th, and the second one will be from December 19th to the 20th. Starladder's initial qualifiers will open with an online single elimination tournament. The matches will feature 512 teams from 15 different countries, competing in a best-of-one format. The countries selected are from the Eastern European Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) region, and in order for a team to be eligible for this tournament they must have three or more members who are citizens of a CIS country. Another stipulation for entry into the tournament is that players and teams that participated in DreamHack Cluj-Napoca 2015 are not allowed to enter this CIS Minor.
The CIS regional countries eligible for the tournament are:
  • Russian Federation Russia
  • Latvia Latvia
  • Lithuania Lithuania
  • Estonia Estonia
  • Ukraine Ukraine
  • Belarus Belarus
  • Moldova Moldova
  • Kyrgyzstan Kyrgyzstan
  • Tajikistan Tajikistan
  • Kazakhstan Kazakhstan
  • Georgia Georgia
  • Armenia Armenia
  • Azerbaijan Azerbaijan
  • Uzbekistan Uzbekistan
  • Turkmenistan Turkmenistan
Moving from the open qualifiers will be the top 16 team, and 8 Starladder invited teams will join them for the closed qualifiers. These closed qualifiers will begin with a group stage featuring four groups of four teams vying for a spot in the single elimination bracket that follows.  The group stage will run from December 21st till the 24th, and will end with 8 teams moving onto the playoffs.  Closed qualifier playoffs will take place between December 26th and 27th, and will decide the four teams that move onto the CIS Minor.
The CIS Minor itself will take place in Belarus Minsk from January 22nd till the 27th, and will be held in the Minsk-Arena. The four teams that qualified through the closed qualifier will then be joined by four more teams that were invited by Starladder. These 8 teams will be separated into two groups of four, and compete until one team remains. The $50,000 prize pool will be divided amongst the top four teams of the tournament.
