The Frankfurt Major announced
Just a few hours ago Valve released a blog and announced the information about the very first Major in 2015. These Major series had been announced already but now the first details and more information has been published. Until now The International was the biggest Dota 2 event of the past years but that will change in the future. One tournament per season will be a Major with a massive prize pool, games and locations all over the world. The Frankfurt Major will be the first major, the Fall Major in 2015 to be precise. As the name of the tournament already says, this first event will take place in Frankfurt, Germany. 16 teams will compete - same as with The International. The entry to the event, which will take six days, is free except the last day which will determine the winner in the grand final.
The location will be the Festhalle Messe in Frankfurt and from the 16-21st of November this place will be the place to be. This hall has been used for indoor sport events and concerts and can accomodate more than 15 000 people. The ESL will take care of the production and see that everything works out. As this is the Major it was to be expected that the prize pool was not too small but 3 000 000 USD is more than most people expected. This is the largest base prize pool of any Dota 2 event up to date - and this is not even the final amount of money as the seasonal Compendium is going to be released soon. Same as for The International getting a Compendium will raise the prize pool even more so a final prize pool with eight numbers is not unlikely!
The entrance to the event will be free for the public but a 50 € ticket will be required to get access to the event at Saturday, 21st of November - the last day of the event. Tickets will be sold in waves:
Two waves of Grand Finals tickets (€50 each)
Sunday 27th September - 11:00am CEST
Sunday 27th September - 7:00pm CEST
Tickets will be available here at those times.
More information about invites and qualifiers will be released on October 5th. The qualifiers will be hosted by FACEIT and Perfect World. Open Qualifiers from 6-9th October will be followed by Regional Qualifiers, which will take place from the 10th-13th October.
As the invites will be out in less than two weeks it will be a tough time for some teams to prove they are worthy of an invite. Even not getting an invite is not the end but the big prize pool will attract a lot of attention from many teams and the qualifiers could be a difficult task for some of the teams, so the game is on! On another note Valve also confirmed that the 6.85 balance patch will be released later this week. Stay tuned for more information!
