WCS 2013 Europe: Group stage

Today at 18:00 CET Eugene "Strelok" Oparyshev of team Natus Vincere will play in the group stage of the most important SC2-tournament of the year – World Championship Series 2013. His first opponent will be Joseph “Ret” de Kroon of Team Liquid. There's also another Russian protoss in the group C - Oleg "Titan" Kuptsov as well as the Swedish terran Marcus "Thorzain" Eklöf. The tourney will be held in the GSL format. The player with 2:0 score will place first in the group, the player with 0:2 score will finish in fourth place. The players with 1:1 score will play each other to determine the second and the third place in the group.

 

Besides Eugene, there's another Na`Vi's player in the mix - Jon "BabyKnight" Andersen. His matches will take place on 8 of May. You will find the details of the format of the tourney, its prize pool and the results of the finished games below:

Main phase of the tournament:
 

16 best players of the first group stage will go to Cologne where they will take part in the second group stage and play-offs of the World Championship Series: Europe in the ESL TV studio. Five best European players will go to the finals of the fifth season of World Championship Series where they will face the winners of American and Korean qualifiers in a battle for the absolute champion title.

Blizzard plans to organize three seasons of World Championship Series as well as the final tournament where the absolute champion in StarCraft 2: Heart of the Swarm will be determined. The grand final will take place during the annual (except for 2006 and 2012) festival Blizzcon 2013.
